Intel didn't wary US govt. regarding the Spectre and Meltdown until the announcement was made public
letters from major technology companies have revealed that Intel didn't wary the US cybersecurity officials about the Spectre and Meltdown flaws up until they were announced publicly.
Almost every computing machine on this planet is affected by the Meltdown and Spectre flaws, including Apple products and Google devices. Intel also confirmed that the Meltdown and Spectre flaws are slowing the performance of its devices. However, Intel had then smartly responded to the solution by claiming that average computer users should not be affected.
Now as per some reports from Beebom suggest that the letters from major technology companies have revealed that Intel didn't wary the US cybersecurity officials about the Spectre and Meltdown flaws up until they were announced publicly.
The reports further suggest that the letters were directed to US representative Greg Walden, who is a Republican from Oregon. Intel had mentioned in those letters that it did not alert government officials because Intel believed that there was "no indications that any of these vulnerabilities had been exploited by the malicious actors". Intel has also mentioned that it never had an idea that the industrial control system was affected by the security flaws.
Intel had announced the patches for Meltdown and Spectre hardware flaws however the exact number of devices affected were unknown. It was being reported that the devices which are affected are made of an older version of hardware and software. Almost most of the devices were affected by theseMeltdown and Spectre flaws including the Apple devices. Both the "Spectre and Meltdown" flaws affect the performance of CPU feature called Speculative Execution which is responsible for improving speed and operate multiple operations.
Intel, however, is emphasizing on customer security and is promising in delivering latest updates in the coming months to minimize the damage which can be caused due to Meltdown and Spectre security flaws.
The company also claimed that Windows 7 is suffering a slowdown of 6 percent, lower than the Skylake-s platform. Intel also claims that Skylake s-platform suffers from a higher performance impact and the data shows it to be of approximately 8 percent as compared to 6 percent of Windows.
