iPhone 5: Apple Opens Recycle Option for 4S
Apple the Cupertino based company is tight-lipped about the arrival of the next iPhone, which is subjected to a lot of rumors, speculations and image leaks. As per several reports from numerous sources, Apple will be holding a special event on September 12 to lift the curtains off the next iPhone.
In the meantime, there is a small bit of information online, hinting at a huge possibility of the next iPhone's launch. Apple is offering an option to the consumers to recycle the iPhone 4S, which was launched in October 2011 for up to $345 (approx. Rs 19,200) for the 64GB model. Apple will provide consumers with a Gift Card, which is equivalent to the fair market value of the device after evaluation.
While the 64GB iPhone 4S is subjected to get $345 (approx. Rs 19,200) for recycling, the 16GB version of the same will get $285 (approx. Rs 16,000) from Apple, according to an estimate from PowerON.
Further, these prices are for devices that are in good and usable condition without water damage, cracks and scuff marks. In return, users get an Apple Gift Card, which can be used for another Apple iPhone or any other Apple product.
After users trade in their old products, if they are in good condition, Apple will re-sell or recondition them, while if they are not worth enough, they get broken for recycling.
Usually, Apple does not release a recycling program for the latest version of its products until it is ready to unveil a new one, hinting at the possibility of a near future launch of the much hyped iPhone 5.
At the same time, according to a recent Wall Street Journal report, Sharp is facing some issue with the displays for the next iPhone and it is yet to start the mass production, while other suppliers such as LG and Japan Display have shipped their displays to Apple.
However, as there are three suppliers, it is unlikely to expect a delay in the iPhone, but there could be supply problems after release. The new screens to be used in iPhone 5 will have the in-cell technology, which allows for a thinner profile.
Coming to the specifications of the next iPhone, it is rumored to pack a larger 4 inch display, smaller dock connector, iOS 6, improved Siri, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera for video calling, NFC, 4G LTE, liquidmetal casing and an improved battery for better backup.
