Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Paperwhite

Amazon uncovered two Kindle Fire HD tablets based on Android OS and an updated backlit version of the Kindle e-book reader – Kindle Paperwhite on September 6.

The 7 inch Kindle Fire HD packs an IPS display with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and is equipped with 1.2GHz dual core TI OMAP 4460 processor while the 8.9 version of the tablet sports an IPS display with 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution and is equipped with a 1.5GHz dual core TI OMAP 4470 processor.

Further, the 7 inch and 8.9 inch Amazon tablets will be flavored with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. When it comes to the 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HD, the 4G LTE version of the tablet will be available in US alone.

The company also announced the Kindle Paperwhite, a new version of the black-and-white Kindle that is thinner and 15% quicker than its predecessor. The e-book reader has a 6 inch display with 212 ppi pixel density. In addition, the Kindle Paperwhite has an onboard storage of 2GB and it comes in two different variants – Wi-Fi and 3G + Wi-Fi.
