Starlink Enters India: Maharashtra Becomes First State to Partner for Satellite-Based Internet
The Government of Maharashtra has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited, making it the first Indian state to partner with Elon Musk's firm for satellite internet service.
Under this collaboration, Maharashtra is confirmed to pioneer the deployment of satellite-based internet services for government institutions, rural communities, and key public infrastructure across remote, underserved, and aspirational districts - including Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Dharashiv, and Washim.

Maharashtra Becomes First State to Partner with Starlink
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Fadnavis made this annoucement, stating, "Elon Musk's Starlink is one of the largest companies in the ICT sector, with the highest number of communication satellites in the world. It is our honour to welcome the company to India and partner with Maharashtra."
The Maharashtra-Starlink partnership will also bolster the state's flagship Digital Maharashtra Mission and align with its initiatives in EV, Coastal Development, and Disaster Resilience programmes. With this, we expect the official rollout will take place as soon as late 2025 or early 2026.
In the same, the company has already started recruiting staff in India. Several job listings have appeared on LinkedIn for positions at their Bengaluru office. This revolutionary satellite broadband service aims to provide high-speed internet access worldwide. The establishment of a wholly owned subsidiary named Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited underscores their commitment to this expansion.
