Microsoft OneNote for Mac Coming Later This Month: Targeting Evernote's Success
Microsoft has plans in store for the Apple-based Mac system, and while those plans doesn't involve anything huge, the Redmond-based technology giant is indeed planning on bringing the popular OneNote service to the Mac platform, reports have suggested.
Sources close to Microsoft's plans have revealed to The Verge that the Mac application will be a part of a broader overall achievement to expand the features and functionality of OneNote.
Microsoft originally released the OneNote more than 10 years ago, and the company, to date, has largely limited its note-taking app to Windows. And while versions for iOS, Android, and the web are already present, the full desktop version has always been a paid one that's available for Office on Windows. But as reports suggest, this is about to change as well.
Going by whatever that was revealed related to the OneNote service, The Verge states that Microsoft will release the OneNote for Mac app for free, with the company also planning to make the Windows desktop version available at no extra cost.

"This marks a significant change in the way Microsoft manages OneNote, unbundling it fully from the cost of Office. We're told part of this free approach is targeted at competitors like Evernote, but Microsoft is also adding additional features to entice people away from the competition," the report adds.
Apart from that, the report also states that a new web clipper feature is also heading to OneNote soon and will allow users to clip parts of webpages directly into a OneNote. Also it has been revealed that Microsoft is creating browser extensions to allow clipping directly from the web browsers like Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox.

And while the above-mentioned feature is quite similar to Evernote's own web clipper, "we understand Microsoft will also allow OneNote users to email notes to its service to be included in a notebook."
The OneNote for Mac will now look to set the stage for new Office for Mac apps, and are expected to debut later this year.
