Microsoft: Windows 8 will be launched in October
Microsoft has confirmed the release date of Windows 8. The new version of the Windows operating system that is meant for the desktop, notebook and tablet computers will be released across the world in October.
The software giant announced this at the Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference 2012 that was held in Toronto. Microsoft will be releasing three versions of the operating system.
The Windows 8 RTM will be launched in the first week of August. This is the final version of the platform and it will released to the manufacturers. This allows them to start working on new devices that can use the new Windows operating system.
So far, we knew that Microsoft will be releasing the Windows 8 platform in the second half of this year. Now, Microsoft has confirmed that the platform will be launched in October. Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 make use of the same kernel and they share many features.
The two platforms are separated only by a thin line. The Windows 8 that is confirmed to be launched in October will be for tablets while the Windows Phone 8 is for the smartphones.
