The mobile shipments made to India rise by about 13.8% and goes to 47 million units in the last quarter of the year. These are especially propelled due to the sales of the dual SIM mobile phones as per the research company, IDC.
The research has mentioned that the shipment of mobile phones increase by 12 percent every quarter and every year. The shipments of mobile phones witnessed an outpouring as the mobile phone vendors had built channel inventories for the long holiday and festival season. The shipments of the dual SIM handsets alone experienced a growth of about 25.2 percent when compared to last year.
IDC, International Data Corporation's Research Director of India, Deepak Kumar mentioned that the mobile shipments for the year 2011 will be closed with 184.4 million units. The market will record about 301 million units in the year 2015 with an annual growth of about 13.03% per year from 2011 to 2015. This is termed as the compound annual growth rate (CAGR).
The CAGR of the smartphone segment is predicted to rise by about 63.4% during this period and thereby achieve about 77.5 million units of shipments by the end of 2015. The last quarter, that is from July to September of 2011 the smartphone segment has witnessed about 51.5 percent growth on a yearly basis and about 21.4 percent on a quarterly basis. These figures have made it to contribute about 6.5 percent share on the overall mobile phone market.
Nokia, the Finnish cellphone manufacturer is the leader in the feature phones as well as smartphone segments with market share percentages of about 31.8 % and 35.3 % respectively in the period of preview. Samsung, the Korean company followed Nokia with with a percent of 17.5 for the feature phones and 26 for the smartphones.
The top most home grown brands are MAXX and Spice that witnessed about 34.1 % and 10.1 % when it comes to shipments in the period of July to September. From the perspective of the mobile operating system, Android is the marketing leader with a percent of 42.4 of the market share in the smartphone segment. This overtook Symbian and emerged as the top used platform of the India. The shipments of Android powered smartphones have grew by about 90 % in the period of July to September.
