MTS launches Android smartphone and tablet


MTS has launched an Android based smartphone in India. The CDMA service provider released MTS MTag 401 Android smartphone for a price in India of Rs 8,999. Those consumers who buy this handset will get unlimited data usage and MTS to MTS calls for about three months for free.

MTS MTag 401 sports a 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. The handset is powered by the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. It is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor with 800 MHz speed. It has a 1700 mAh battery, 3.0 MP camera and a micro SD card slot that can support up to 32 GB. The device bundles a 2 GB micro SD card.

MTS has bundled the TV application with the MTag 401. This service allows the users to enjoy Live TV with over 100 channels. The handset also has the access to the Google Play Store. This is the fourth Android based smartphone from MTS.

Soon after the launch of the smartphone, MTS is planning to announce a 7 inch Android Froyo based tablet. Nowadays, many Indian manufacturers have started announcing tablets with Android 4.0 ICS operating system. But, the Android 2.2 Froyo offering from MTS is quite surprising.

A spokesperson of the company said that the company is working on the offering to make it attractive. Especially, being an operator, it will definitely offer good services and data plans. MTS has also said that it will offer some preloaded applications like the MTS TV app and some other entertainment related ones.

As of now, there is no official information regarding the specifications of the tablet. It is expected to be a very attractive one. Let us wait for the official announcement regarding the Android tablet.
