Narendra Modi's visit will boost production of cell phones in India: ICA
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China will boost manufacturing of mobile handsets in India and would benefit renewed joint partnership between enterprises, the Indian Cellular Association's President said today.
Indian Cellular Association (ICA) President Pankaj Mohindroo who will take part in the India-China Business Forum to be addressed by Modi during his visit to Shanghai on May 16 said India, China business partnership would benefit renewed joint partnership between enterprises of both the countries by setting up of manufacturing eco-system in the mobile handset segment.

Apart from attending the Business forum, Mohindroo said ICA delegation would also interact with CEOs from major Chinese OEM brands, Chinese component manufacturers, local industry bodies and Chinese Government.
The delegation would be taking this opportunity to update the Chinese side about the growing opportunities in the Indian mobile handset segment, explore business opportunities with the Chinese counterparts as well as further business engagements between the two countries, he said in a statement issued here.
The ICA delegation is also expected to address various business and investment forum meetings which are currently under the process of being finalised in China and a number of MoUs are expected to be signed, Mohindroo said.

Last year India imported close to 85 per cent of its total domestic demand for mobile handsets through imports by volume and China based imports constituted 80-85 per cent of the total imports and the rest being imported from Vietnam, he said.
Currently, with the prioritised objective of the Indian government is to promote establishment of large scale manufacturing of mobile handsets, its parts, components and accessories and for creating India the Global HUB for ESDM sector, Mohindroo said.
"With the Government of India's increasing focus on promoting manufacturing in the electronics sector, especially manufacturing of mobile handsets, its parts, components and accessories, which constitutes the largest pie out of the entire electronics sector in India at present that with the support of the Chinese manufacturing eco-system the Make In India vision would be greatly bolstered", he added.
