NHAI Warns Paytm FASTag Users: Get New One Before March 15 or Pay Penalties

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has advised Paytm FASTag users to get a new FASTag from another bank before March 15 to ensure a smooth travel experience without any inconvenience at toll plazas.

Fail to do so, you might have to pay double the amount at each toll, as it will be considered as a cash payment. It will help users avoid penalties or double fee charges while travelling on National Highways, according to the official statement.

Following the guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s restrictions on Paytm Payments Bank, Paytm FASTags users will no longer be able to recharge or top-up their balance after March 15, 2024. However, they will be able to pay tolls using their existing balance beyond this date.

Also note that one vehicle can only have one FASTag account, this means, one needs to cancel the existing FASTag and apply for a new one or transfer the already existing one to a new vendor.

This came after RBI imposed a ban on Paytm Payments Bank, which prevents users from recharging their Paytm-linked FastTag. This means vehicle owners, who have a Paytm-powered FastTag won't be able to make payments once FASTags runs out of balance.

Paytm FASTag users can either transfer their existing account to another account, or they can also buy a new FASTag from other partners. Do note that, if you are getting a new FASTag, it is important to remove the old tag from your vehicle and replace the same with the new one.
