WWDC 2025 May See Modest AI Updates

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple insiders are anticipating only modest AI-related announcements at this year's WWDC. Given that, the company seems to be lagging behind major competitors like OpenAI and Google in the AI race.

While WWDC 2023 saw the launch of the Vision Pro and visionOS, and WWDC 2024 introduced Apple Intelligence, this year's event is likely to be more low-key. Gurman notes that even some Apple employees believe the event could be a "letdown" when it comes to AI updates.

However, Apple is expected to share updates on Swift Assist at WWDC 2025. According to Mark Gurman, SwiftUI will also receive a new rich text editor, enhancing the developer experience.

Another notable highlight of the event could be a major shift in Apple's software naming convention. As previously reported by Bloomberg's Gurman, Apple is planning to move away from sequential version numbers and instead name its operating systems based on the year. For example, the upcoming iOS 19 could be rebranded as iOS 26, aligning with the calendar year. This change may also extend to other platforms, including iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS.
