Online Banking Scams In 2019 That Gave Indians Nightmares
Our government's decision to bring a cashless economy is no doubt a smart and bold move. Ever since the implementation, several UPI based payment apps came into the picture. Thereby allowing users to go for smooth and secured cashless transactions. But, these UPI payment systems haven't gone too well with some users, so far in 2019. As there have been several online scams based on fake UPIs similar to Google Docs or Paytm.
Before you become the next victim of this online fraudulent activity, let's make you aware of how the entire scam works--
1. You will get an unknown call from someone who will fake up as a customer service officer either from your bank or he/she could pretend to be a Paytm KYC executive.
2. The fraudster will ask your details like name, DOB, and mobile number for verification.
3. The fraudster will anyhow try to convince you to download the AnyDesk or TeamViewer app.
4. The fraud guy will sue you by saying your card might get blocked or your Paytm or other UPI apps would get defunct. And, then he will convince you to download AnyDesk or TeamViewer app.
5. Once you have downloaded the app on your device, you will be asked for private permissions.
6. After you have granted the permissions, the AnyDesk or TeamViewer app will provide you a code that will allow the fraud guy to peep into your mobile.
7. The fake caller will seek your 9-digit code that will be displayed on your handset to connect and get access to your mobile screen secretly.
8. Once the call is ended, the fraudster will get to see and record your mobile screen.
9. The fraud guy will then steal away your login details.
10. And, then the fraudster will use your IDs for transferring the money.
11. Once the caller gets access to your mobile phone, he will get the OTP details and other secret information.
