Act Now! Paytm to Close Inactive Wallets with Zero Balance on July 20
Paytm users with inactive wallets holding zero balance will see their accounts closed starting July 20th, 2024. This move aims to streamline inactive accounts and follows increased government oversight of digital payment platforms in India.
Why is Paytm Closing Inactive Wallets?
The Indian government has been closely monitoring Unified Payments Interface (UPI) apps like Paytm, PhonePe, and Google Pay to ensure they comply with regulations. In February, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed restrictions on Paytm for rule violations. While these restrictions only prevented new deposits into Paytm wallets, many users withdrew their remaining balance, leading to a rise in inactive accounts with zero balance.

What Happens to My Inactive Paytm Wallet?
Paytm will automatically close any wallet that hasn't had a transaction for over a year and has a zero balance. Users will receive a notification 30 days before closure.
How Can I Close My Paytm Wallet Myself?
If you want to close your Paytm wallet before July 20th, you can follow these steps:
- Open the Paytm app.
- Go to the Paytm Payments Bank Wallet section.
- Select "Need help with Non-order related queries"
- Choose "I want to close my Wallet"
- What Does This Mean for Paytm Users?

This move by Paytm reflects efforts to maintain an active and compliant user base in accordance with government regulations. It's important to note that only inactive wallets with zero balance will be affected.
