Professor assaulted for Facebook post on college poll
A college professor in Paschim Medinipore district today lodged a police complaint claiming that he was assaulted by a group of students inside the staff room over his Facebook post questioning transparency of the college elections held last month, the police said.
Amit Roy, professor of economics of Rabindra Satabarsiki Mahavidyalaya of Ghatal, alleged that he was assaulted by Hemanta Das, general secretary of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad run college union, and others.

Das, along with some other students of the college, barged inside the staff room in the afternoon with a print out of the post Roy had written on his Facebook account on January 16 regarding the college elections. "He asked me why I wrote it.
When I replied that it was my personal opinion, he pulled me up from my chair and pushed me down on the floor and assaulted me," Roy said in the complaint. "When other professors inside the staff room tried to prevent the students from assaulting me, they were also manhandled," he alleged.

Hemanta Das, however, denied all the allegations made against him by Roy and said he did not attend college today. Nobody was arrested in this connection, an official at the Ghatal Police Station said, adding, a probe was initiated into the matter.
