Qatar Govt Starts Air-Conditioning Outdoors To Tackle Heat – Good Or Bad Idea?
The Middle East is known for its extreme climate condition and everyone knows that in usual days the temperature goes up to 48 degrees celsius and deop to 32 degrees during night time. Living in such regions is very difficult for people especially when global warming is at a peak. To manage this extreme behaviour of climate Qatar government is not installing outdoor air condition in the country. Here are the details:
The government is setting up outdoor air conditions in the common areas of the country which include markets, open-air stadiums, sidewalks, mall premises, and more. Government is taking this step to make their people comfortable.
"If you turn off air conditioners, it will be unbearable. You cannot function effectively," Yousef al-Horr, founder of the Gulf Organization for Research and Development told Washington Post.
According to Mohammed Ayoub, senior research chief at the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, when the temperature of the world witnessed a growth of 2 degrees Celsius, the temperature in Qatar is said to increase by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. So we can understand the situation of people who are living there under such circumstances.
"Qatar is one of the fastest-warming areas of the world, at least outside of the Arctic. Changes there can help give us a sense of what the rest of the world can expect if we do not take action to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.", Beebom quoted Zeke Hausfather, a climate data scientist at Berkeley Earth, a nonprofit temperature analysis group.
Installing Outdoor Air-conditions Good Or Bad Idea?
With the installation of outdoor air-condition people of Qatar might be happy, and must be praising the government for taking this step to comfort the residents of the country. But this is going to be a hit on the environment because it will increase the use of fossil burn which is required to generate more electricity to powerup this huge project. This will ultimately increase the rate of global warming, which will increase the temperature more. So this will be a bad idea to installs more air-condition in the country. Already 60 percent of the electricity in Qutar is used for air conditions, and this one will require more electricity consumption.
However, we can't even blame the government and Qatar residents because now air conditions have become necessary for them rather than a luxury.
