From Mahindra to Hero, Snapdragon Auto Day Shows Qualcomm’s Role in India’s Auto Future
Qualcomm, best known for powering smartphones, is now steering deeper into the automotive space—and India’s increasingly connected auto market is clearly a priority.
At its recent Snapdragon Auto Day event in New Delhi, the company detailed how it’s working with major Indian automakers to bring advanced in-car tech and connectivity into the mainstream.

Collaborating With Indian Brands
The company confirmed ongoing collaborations with Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hero MotoCorp, and Ultraviolette. Each partnership has a slightly different angle, but they all revolve around Qualcomm’s automotive platforms—namely the Snapdragon Digital Chassis and Snapdragon Ride.
These platforms bundle things like connectivity, infotainment, driver-assistance systems, and vehicle-to-cloud services into one ecosystem. The goal is to support automakers in rolling out smarter and safer vehicles, whether they’re passenger cars, bikes, or electric scooters.
The Focus Is on Software and Systems, Not Just Hardware
Unlike traditional suppliers that focus on individual chips, Qualcomm’s strategy is more layered. It’s offering a full-stack solution that combines hardware, software, and cloud services. According to the company, this gives automakers a modular setup that can scale across models and price segments.
There’s also a notable emphasis on two-wheelers, which are still the most common mode of transport in India. Working with Hero and Ultraviolette, Qualcomm is hoping to bring smartphone-like features—like OTA updates and ride analytics—to more affordable vehicles.
A Quiet Expansion
What stands out is how Qualcomm is positioning itself. It isn’t trying to be a consumer-facing name in the automotive world. Instead, it’s embedding itself behind the scenes, supplying the underlying tech that lets automakers build connected systems on top of it.
India’s auto market grew to become the world’s third-largest last year, and as vehicles get more digitized, software-defined systems are expected to play a central role. Qualcomm is betting that its expertise in mobile tech gives it a strong foundation to meet that shift.
