Reliance Jio Brings A New Rs 147 Plan To India But There Is A Catch
Reliance Jio has introduced a new prepaid recharge plan in India priced at Rs 147. At first glance, the low price might make it seem like a solid option for users looking to save on their monthly mobile bills. But, there is a catch. Read on.
Jio Rs 147 Recharge Plan: What Is The Catch?
The catch here is that Jio's new Rs 147 recharge is a voice-only plan. It offers unlimited voice calling and 300 SMS for 22 days, but does not include any mobile data benefits.
This means the plan is meant for users who primarily use their phones for calling and messaging, rather than browsing the internet, streaming videos or using social media through mobile data.

It is worth mentioning that Jio has introduced these plans under a separate section following the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) directives. Airtel and Vi have also launched similar voice-only recharge options.
Jio Voice-Only Recharge Plans: Complete List
Jio has introduced multiple voice-only prepaid plans with different validity periods. Apart from the Rs 147 recharge, users can choose from options that offer validity ranging from 28 days to nearly a year.
The Rs 177 plan offers 28 days of validity, while the Rs 196 recharge comes with a 30-day validity period. Both plans include unlimited voice calling and 300 SMS, without mobile data benefits.
Jio also offers a Rs 197 monthly recharge. Unlike a fixed 28-day plan, its validity follows the calendar date of recharge. For instance, users who recharge on the 5th of a month can renew the plan on the 5th of the following month.
Here is a look at the available plans:
| Recharge price | Validity | Benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Rs 147 | 22 days | Unlimited calls, 300 SMS |
| Rs 177 | 28 days | Unlimited calls, 300 SMS |
| Rs 196 | 30 days | Unlimited calls, 300 SMS |
| Rs 197 | One calendar month | Unlimited calls, 300 SMS |
| Rs 448 | 84 days | Unlimited calls, 1,000 SMS, Jio apps and OTT access |
| Rs 1,748 | 336 days | Unlimited calls, 3,600 SMS, complimentary OTT subscriptions |
All these plans come without mobile data benefits.
Who Should Consider Jio's New Voice-Only Plans?
Jio's new voice-only recharge plans are designed for users who do not need mobile data on their phones. They could be useful for people who use their SIM cards mainly for calls, keep a secondary number active or rely on Wi-Fi for internet access.
The Rs 147 plan offers the lowest entry price, while the Rs 448 and Rs 1,748 options provide longer validity. However, users who regularly rely on mobile data for browsing, messaging apps or streaming will need to choose a plan that includes a data allowance.
