Spice ties up with Huawei to Launch 7-10 'S Huawei' Smartphones in India

On Thursday, Indian phone maker Spice Group announced a strategic partnership with the Chinese handset manufacturer, Huawei to launch 'S Huawei' brand in the market.

 

Following on the same lines, Spice is also planning to launch around 7 to 10 co-branded smartphones, targeting to sell 10 million handsets globally by June 2013 including 7.5 million 2G handsets. Spice has already launched 3G smartphone Ascend Y100 as the first product under the partnership priced at Rs 5,990. Further, the company currently sells around half a million handsets every month.

 

Declaring the conditions inked in the deal with the Chinese company Huawei, Spice said it expects to sell one million handsets under ‘S Huawei’ brand this fiscal ending June 2013.

Both the companies have their exclusive smartphones and the S Huawei branded handsets, which after the partnership will be made available at the Spice HotSpot retail stores in India.

Dr BK Modi, global Chairman, Spice Group was quoted stating in the media press release, "The group today has established itself as a leading solution provider. These partnerships are key drivers to expand our global footprints. These partnerships are key drivers to expand our global footprints.”

Modi added that “Today, more than 50 per cent of the revenue comes from the international market. In Indonesia, we have crossed $1-billion revenue as of June 30.”

Spice has also tied up with Google for Android handsets, which it plans to sell around 1.5 million 2G Wi-Fi and 3G units.

The company has also combined with operators to offer free 3G data plan with the handset for a period of 3 months in collaboration with Airtel in Delhi & Mumbai, with Aircel in Hyderabad & Bangalore and with Tata Docomo in Jaipur.

Spice Group also plans to expand its number of stores to 5,000 from 1,250, in markets where it is already present including India, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and parts of Africa.

When it comes to Ascend Y100, a new entry-level Android smartphone, the handset packs a 2.8 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 320 × 240 pixels, an 800MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 3.2MP rear camera.

Running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, 256MB RAM, 512MB internal memory and 32GB expandable memory via a micro SD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and 3G.

Moreover, the handset is priced at Rs 5,999 in the price-conscious Indian market.
