Too Many Whatsapp Groups? These 4 New Features Will Help You Catch Up Faster
If you are part of a family group, a housing society group and three office groups on WhatsApp, you know the feeling of opening the app to hundreds of unread messages. WhatsApp is now rolling out four new features meant to help you find what matters in busy group chats without scrolling through everything.

See only the chats where someone needs you
The most useful update is a new chat filter for mentions and replies. It shows every unread group conversation where someone tagged you, replied directly to your message or used @all. So instead of going through every group, you can quickly check the ones where people are actually waiting for your response.
Share a status with just one group
WhatsApp is also adding group status. You can now post a status that only members of a specific group can see, so your gym photos can go to your running club without showing up for your relatives. Everyone in the group can view it, react to it and add their own status. Like regular statuses, these disappear after 24 hours.
Pin messages forever
Until now, pinned messages in a chat came with a time limit. You can now keep an important message pinned forever, which is handy for things like a society's maintenance account details, an event venue or group rules.
Catch up new members later
Earlier this year, WhatsApp let you share recent message history when adding someone to a group. Now you can do it even after they have joined. Just tap their name in the chat to send them recent messages. WhatsApp says these messages stay end-to-end encrypted.
WhatsApp also reminded users of a few existing features. You can reply privately to one person in a group, turn off multiple answers in polls when you need a clear decision, and use member tags to add context like "Treasurer" or "Sam's Dad" in different groups.
The new features are rolling out now. If you don't see them yet, update WhatsApp from the Google Play Store or App Store and check again over the next few days.
