Twitter might soon receive End-to-End encrypted secret messages
Twitter's ‘conversation info' section now has an ‘Encryption settings' options. The ‘Encryption Settings' option will allow a user to start an encrypted conversation.
The tech companies are experiencing a tough time fending off various attacks on their services and devices. Users all around the world are concerned about their privacy and are constantly looking out for various methods by which they can protect their privacy.
For the users who are concerned about their privacy, end-to-end encryption is always favoured. However, when it comes to the governments and even some of the tech companies, releasing an end-to-end encrypted message is not favoured.
One of the recent examples is the ban on Telegram in Russia and also the departure of WhatsApp founder Jan Koum from Facebook over encryption in the app. However unaffected by the recent developments, Twitter is now working on bringing an end-to-end encrypted, secret massaging feature for its platform.
It is being reported that a user named Jane Manchun Wong has recently spotted a latest 'secret conversation' feature in the code of a Twitter APK. The newly discovered feature is said to allow the users to have conversations that will be end-to-end encrypted for an added layer of protection. The feature is said to be similar to that of the secret conversation feature that is already available for the Facebook Messenger.
Going by the screenshot that has been tweeted by Wong reveals that the Twitter's 'conversation info' section now has an 'Encryption settings' options. The 'Encryption Settings' option will allow a user to start an encrypted conversation. Also, the user sending the message and the recipient will also be able to see the encryption keys that are used for securing their conversations. The users will also be able to view a tutorial on how the encrypted messaging feature will work. However, it is not clear at the moment that when the end-to-end encrypted feature will be made available for the general masses.
Apart from the encrypted messaging, Wong had also spotted another security feature called FIDO U2F (Universal 2 Factor) security key as a login verification measure. In addition to the standard two-step verification method, the app also lists two other options- using a dedicated mobile security app for generating a login code, along with the ability to use an electronic key for authentication and sign-in
