Vodafone India Launches SMS Service for Blood Donation

Vodafone India, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, has launched a unique SMS service to enable subscribers to find blood donors or to become donors. To use the service, the user has to send a text message stating ‘BLOOD’ to 55444. By following the instructions in the subsequent steps, a subscriber can either become a donor or find a donor. Search results are narrowed down to the subscriber's in code.

Subscribers will be charged a nominal fee of Re 1 per SMS for using this service. The service is supported by Innoz, which has partnered with the website IndianBlooddonors.com.

In an official statement a Vodafone spokesperson was quoted stating that, "This latest initiative is in line with its commitment to achieving highest standards of health, safety and well-being in and around its operating environment. As part of its customer connects initiatives, Vodafone intends to make a small and meaningful contribution to saving lives of the needy".
