WD launches two 500 GB lightweight portable hard drives
WD, the leaders in hardware design and manufacturing has launched two new portable 500 GB hard drives for Windows PCs and Macs. The new drives were launched under the ‘My Passport Edge’ range and both these products feature USB 3.0 connectivity capable of executing data transfer at a rate of 5 Gigabits per second.
The two drives follow sleek design with the Mac version measuring 0.40 inches and the Windows version measuring 0.50 inches in depth. The drives are also extremely convenient to carry around with the Mac version weighing 5.76 ounces and the Windows version weighing 4.8 ounces.
There are slight differences in the operations of the devices, especially on how data is backed up. According to WD, the Mac version is compatible with Timemachine out of the box for backing up the data. However, the My Passport Edge Windows drive comes with WD Smartware software which allows automatic backup of data. But the Smartware software wouldn’t be of much use with Windows 7 and the upcoming Windows 8 featuring inbuilt back up tools.
Both the devices arrive with a 3 year warranty. My Passport Edge will be sold at a price tag of $110(approximately Rs 6,100) whereas My Passport Edge for Mac will be sold at a price tag of $120(approximately Rs. 6,600). The devices are available for purchase from WD store.
