What is Grokipedia? Elon Musk's AI-Powered Encyclopedia Aiming to Take On Wikipedia
Elon Musk's xAI has launched Grokipedia, an AI-powered online encyclopedia. Grokipedia.com version 0.1 is now live, which comes as an alternative to Wikipedia. According to Musk, version 1.0 will be "10X better", but even the current version is claimed to outperform Wikipedia. It has a total of 885,279 articles. Let's take a look at its offering and how it's different.
Grokipedia Explained
Grokipedia was reportedly created in response to Elon Musk's belief that Wikipedia has a left-wing bias, supporting one side of the political spectrum over the other. Back in 2024, Musk had criticized Wikipedia, stating, "Wikipedia is controlled by far-left activists. People should stop donating to them''.

Unlike Wikipedia, Grokipedia doesn't include in-line citations or direct source links within the text. Instead, the content is entirely AI-generated, and sources are listed at the end of each sentence or collectively at the end of the article, offering readers a different approach to fact verification.
When Gizbot checked Grokipedia, I searched for Deepika Padukone on both Grokipedia and Wikipedia. So basically, what I feel is that even if I don't know the person, Wikipedia provides an image, which helps me recognize if I'm reading about the right person. You don't get that in Grokipedia. Even the content offered there is taken from multiple websites.
