WhatsApp data download tool might go live soon
The new tool that Facebook and WhatsApp will be rolling out will allow a user to download a copy of data that they have shared on the online social media platform.
The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is due to come into effect exactly one month from now in effect with the EU. Following this Instagram had announced a new tool for the users today which allow the users to download all data from the website. Now, Facebook and WhatsApp have also made an announcement that it will soon be releasing the data download and import tool which is made mandatory by the GDPR.
The new tool that Facebook and WhatsApp will be rolling out will allow a user to download a copy of data that they have shared on the online social media platform. The data include photos, videos and messages. This was earlier depicted as some changes were rolled out in the Beta version of the app.
There is no information as of now on when the new feature will be rolled out for the users, however, as per the company the tool will be rolled out along with the 'newest version of the app'. Anyhow the GDPR is all set to come into effect in the EU on May 25, it is being speculated that WhatsApp might implement these changes before that date.
Further, as per some sources from the web, for the European region, WhatsApp is also raising the minimum age of users from 13 to 16 and by the end, it is being said that it will ask every user in the European region to confirm their age while they agree to the new terms of services along with the new privacy policy. Also, there are two major changes that are expected to happen which will make the service complaint with the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) which is said to go into effect from 25th oh next month.
It is also worth noting the fact that both Instagram and WhatsApp are owned by the social media giant Facebook that already is giving an option to its users as a part of 'Download your Information' tool which was announced back in 2010. We are looking forward for the release the download tools and would like to use the tool first before making any further comments.
