Windows 10 next major update will include a better screenshot tool
The new screenshot tool is called ‘Screen Sketch. The new screenshot feature is a standalone app that was originally introduced as a part of the Windows Ink workspace.
Microsoft has recently started rolling out the Windows 10 Insider Preview (Build 17661). The new update brings a set of improvements and bug fixes along with a new and improved screenshot tool. Up until now for capturing a screenshot on Windows 10, a user needed to press the 'Win + PrtScr' command which just saved the image of the entire screen to a designated folder. The command doesn't allow a user to edit the screenshot in any possible way.
However, along with the next major update, Windows is also planning on introducing a new screenshot experience for the users. The update will allow a user to edit the screenshot that they have captured and also share them instantly. Microsoft took it to its blog post to announce the latest Insider build that states:
"The new modern snipping experience is here to help you effortlessly capture and annotate what you see on your screen. While working on this we've been carefully going over all your feedback about taking screenshots in Windows - you'll find the flow and tools are optimized for sharing and make communicating visually with others quick and easy" he further added.
Further, the new screenshot tool is called 'Screen Sketch'. The new screenshot feature is a standalone app that was originally introduced as a part of the Windows Ink workspace. This makes the screenshot tool a standalone app that brings several benefits for the users which included the fact that it can now be updated directly via the Microsoft Store.
It is also being reported that with the help of the tool, the users will be able to capture screenshots quickly by using the 'Win + Shift + s' command. This command will bring up a snipping toolbar. The users will also be able to "snip a rectangle, something a bit more freeform, or full screen" which will send the image directly to the clipboard. If a user wants to edit the screen grab, they will be notified. Once the user gets receives the notification they can click on it, this will take the user to the Screen Sketch app using which the user can share the screenshot.
Microsoft will allow users to choose a different shortcut from within the Settings tab. There are three different ways using which a user would be able to take screenshots, including:
• Clicking the pen tail button- A user can now take a screenshot by tapping the tail button on their supported Pens. This shortcut can be activated from the Pen & Windows Ink Settings.
• Using just the Print Screen button- Users will be able to take a screenshot by just tapping on the Print Screen button. This shortcut can be enabled from the Keyboard Settings, which has a new option that says "Use the Print Screen key to launch screen snipping".
• Using the Print Screen button- A user will also be able to capture a screenshot by simply tapping on the Print Screen button. This shortcut can be enabled from the Keyboard Settings that has a new option which states "Use the Print Screen key to launch screen snipping".
• Using the quick action button in Action Center- A new "Screen snip" button has been added to the Action Center that can be activated from the Notifications & Actions Settings.
