Xiaomi has announced a major leadership transition as President Muralikrishnan B prepares to leave the company at the end of 2024. Muralikrishnan, who played a key role in Xiaomi’s resurgence in India following a challenging period, will pursue a PhD at the Indian School of Business, focusing on integrating business and academic insights.

Reflecting on his tenure at Xiaomi, he described it as a "fairy tale" journey marked by significant learning and achievements.

Xiaomi Leadership Changes With Muralikrishnan B's Departure

New Leadership for a Strategic Shift

To ensure Xiaomi’s momentum in the Indian market, Sudhin Mathur, a seasoned industry executive with prior leadership roles at Lenovo, LG, and Sony Ericsson, joined the company as Chief Operating Officer in August 2024. Mathur’s appointment signals a continuity in Xiaomi’s strategic direction, bringing his expertise in the mobile industry and experience with India-specific market strategies.

Mathur will collaborate closely with Anuj Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer, forming a leadership team focused on collective decision-making and operational agility as Xiaomi strengthens its market approach in India.

Xiaomi’s Vision for the Indian Market

As Xiaomi repositions itself, it’s sharpening its product strategy with a focus on premium devices, ecosystem connectivity, and advanced technology. The Xiaomi 15 series, which launched in China with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, is expected to arrive in India by March 2025. This series, created in partnership with Leica for high-quality camera capabilities, demonstrates Xiaomi’s commitment to capturing the interest of high-end consumers in India.

Even after stepping down, Muralikrishnan will maintain an advisory role with Xiaomi, supporting strategic initiatives and helping shape Xiaomi’s product positioning and customer-focused strategies. His continued involvement will provide Xiaomi with a steady hand in steering its product lineup and market approach, especially as it seeks to deepen connections with Indian consumers and meet evolving preferences in a competitive landscape.

Expanding Xiaomi’s Reach Across Market Segments

Under Mathur and Sharma’s leadership, Xiaomi is looking to solidify its position across all market segments—entry-level, mid-range, and premium—by aligning its product range with consumer expectations in each category. This shift aligns with Xiaomi’s broader goals of premiumization and ecosystem connectivity, helping the brand evolve within India’s dynamic market.

As Xiaomi launches new products and expands its ecosystem, the company aims to offer a compelling lineup that appeals to a wide range of consumers.
