Animation Course in India: How AAFT University Raipur Builds VFX, Gaming & 3D Careers

By Gizbot Bureau

A good animation course in India should train you for where the industry is heading, not just where it has been. AAFT University Raipur does exactly that. Its animation programme is built around Unreal Engine and real-time virtual production, the same tools top studios now use.

Students here train for three career directions at once: VFX, gaming and 3D animation. They learn a full production pipeline and build a real portfolio. For anyone looking at a 3D animation and VFX course in Central India, this is a strong choice.

How AAFT University Raipur Builds VFX, Gaming & 3D Careers

The animation degrees are taught at the AAFT University Raipur campus in Chhattisgarh, through the School of Animation. Admissions for the 2026 batch are now open.

Is Animation a Good Career in India?

Yes. Film, OTT, gaming and advertising all need animation and VFX. Streaming has made this demand even bigger. So trained artists are in demand across India today.

A few figures show the scale:

  • India's AVGC sector is set to create over 160,000 new jobs a year, heading toward roughly 2 million by 2030 (CII-GT report).
  • India's animation and VFX sector is projected to grow from about US$1.3 billion to US$2.2 billion by 2026 (FICCI-EY, IBEF).
  • The animation and VFX workforce in India already numbers around 2,60,000 skilled professionals (EY).

VFX, Gaming or 3D - Which Path Is Right for You?

Animation is not one job. It is a set of connected careers. This one degree prepares you for three clear directions.

GamingReal-time 3D, game assets, Unreal Engine worlds Game studios, AR/VR, interactive media
3D AnimationModelling, rigging, lighting, character animationAnimation studios, film, OTT, motion graphics

For students comparing a VFX course with a gaming or game design path, having all three under one degree is a real advantage.

What Makes Raipur's Animation Programme Different?

The biggest highlight is Unreal Engine and real-time virtual production. This is the future of filmmaking and live digital worlds. Students learn it as part of the core course, not as an add-on.

Students also learn the full VFX pipeline. This includes match moving, green-screen compositing, simulation FX and cinematic rendering. Each semester has lab-based projects. By the end, every student builds 15+ production-quality works for their portfolio. Animation students also work with film, cinematography and game design students on campus, just like a real production team.

Which Animation Degrees Can You Study?

AAFT University Raipur offers full degrees, not short courses. So you leave with a real qualification and a portfolio. Whether you want an animation course after 12th or a postgraduate route, there is a clear path. The B.Sc in 3D Animation and VFX is the main entry point.
