Facebook Introduces Embedable Posts While 'On This Day' Tab Is Being Tested in News Feed
Facebook on Wednesday announced that the social newtwork will be allowing users to embed posts from the social networking site on to the other websites. Users can embed posts which can include pictures, videos, hashtags and other content on their blog or other web sites.
"Today, we are beginning to roll out Embedded Posts to make it possible for people to bring the most compelling, timely public posts from Facebook to the rest of the web" wrote Dave Capra & Ray He, Software Engineers in a blog post.
"Embedded Posts let people add public posts from Facebook to their blog or web site. When embedded, posts can include pictures, videos, hashtags and other content. People can also like and share the post directly from the embed."
Just remember, the only posts set to public can be embedded on other websites. Users will be able to like or share posts as buttons for also show within the embed. Also they will be able click on the hashtag and explore more related posts on Facebook. But at the same time, users will not be able to customize the post at this stage.
Looks like Facebook is determined to go head to head with Twitter. With the introduction of hashtags and now the embed feature, it is clear that the social networking site wants to enter the real-time posting arena that has been dominated by Twitter till now.
For now Facebook is only allowing few public figures and news agencies including Bleacher Report, CNN, Huffington Post, Mashable and PEOPLE to make use of the new features. However, in the coming days, other global account holders will get the access too.
In other set of news it has been informed that Facebook is testing one more feature to keep users busy with the News Feed. First reported by Inside Facebook and noticed by Adam Rosenberg the new tab is reportedly said to be On This Day.
When GizBot tried using this feature, the service was not available; might be because it's still in the testing stage. However, it's working for many others.
So what is this new 'On This Day' tab which Facebook is planning to incorporate? Well, as per the reports, with the new tab users will be able to go through the posts of their friends, what they actually updated in the last year on the same day. The event list could include, most popular posts, birthdays, events and other things that happened on that day. The tab can be noticed as shown in the picture below. Let us know in the comments section below, if it's visible for you.
