WhatsApp now allows in-app Instagram, Facebook videos
WhatsApp seems to be working on a lot of new features to make the user experience seamless.
WhatsApp will soon have a slew of new features, as promised in the F8 keynote. Now the company has started rolling out a new update for iOS users. The new update brings support for Instagram and Facebook videos in-app. The app already had support for YouTube, but now has added functionality.
Earlier, users had to open respective apps in order to watch the videos. With the latest update, WhatsApp mentions that in-app video playback will be supported for Instagram and Facebook. As of now, the feature isn't working but will be ready in the coming weeks.
The update also brings the PiP (picture in picture mode) which allows users to navigate through the app while the video plays in a small window. Users will also be able to move the window, play/pause, close or expand the video.
Mark Zuckerberg at the F8 conference, announced that the popular messaging app will be getting a group calling feature. The feature will allow four people to video call at once.
Besides, WhatsApp Status, the Snapchat-inspired feature has reached 450 million daily active users. This is well over two times the whole user base of Snapchat. Additionally, the app is also getting a group video calling feature. While WhatsApp continues to grow at a rapid pace, Snapchat saw its slowest user growth rate ever. Snapchat failed to grab the market share globally, resulting in WhatsApp climbing on top of the ladder.
Recently, the man behind WhatsApp, CEO Jan Koum announced that he will soon be leaving the popular messaging platform.
Jan Koum took to his personal Facebook page to make the announcement. Here's what the post reads: "It's been almost a decade since Brian and I started WhatsApp, and it's been an amazing journey with some of the best people. But it is time for me to move on. I've been blessed to work with such an incredibly small team and see how a crazy amount of focus can produce an app used by so many people all over the world.
I'm leaving at a time when people are using WhatsApp in more ways than I could have imagined. The team is stronger than ever and it'll continue to do amazing things. I'm taking some time off to do things I enjoy outside of technology, such as collecting rare air-cooled Porsches, working on my cars and playing ultimate frisbee. And I'll still be cheering WhatsApp on - just from the outside. Thanks to everyone who has made this journey possible."
