Acer Iconia W510 to Arrive to India Soon: Top 5 Challengers of Windows 8 Hybird Tablet

Acer's Windows 8 based Iconia W510 tablet, which was unveiled during Computex 2012 in Taipei in June 2012 is all set to be launched in India. According to a recent media report, Iconia W510 will be launched in India by January 10, 2013 with an estimated price tag of Rs 40,000 approximately.

 

Speaking of software features, the unannounced tablet comes with some interesting features including the ability to twist it to a maximum of 295 degrees, a solid battery life of over 18 hours and Acer's Always On, Instant Connect and Cloud technologies.

When it comes to specs, Iconia W510 packs a 10.1 inch 5 point multi-touch capacitive LCD display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z2760 dual core processor, Windows 8 operating system, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 32GB/64GB internal storage, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera for video calling, HDMI, WI-Fi, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 3,540 mAh Li-Po battery.

If the tablet is priced at Rs 40,000 as estimated, the tablet will surely fall into competition with the existing tablets that are described in the following slides.

Recently, Lenovo launched IdeaPad Yoga 11 and IdeaPad Yoga 13 in India at price tags of Rs 61,790 and Rs 84,290 respectively.

IdeaPad Yoga has a 11.6 inch LCD multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and runs on Windows RT OS, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 32GB/64GB SSD flash memory, 1MP 720p HD integrated webcam, 2 USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port, a 2-in-1 card reader (SD/MMC), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a battery that can offer 13 hours of usage.

Lenovo has priced IdeaPad Yoga at Rs 61,790 and hence, the Acer offering with a solid battery life and lesser price could be stiff competitor to the Lenovo offering.

South Korean tech giant threw surprising waves at the Indian computer market with the launch of Ativ Smart PC and Ativ Smart PC Pro based on Windows 8 operating system.

Coming to the specifications of Ativ Smart PC, the tablet-laptop hybrid packs a 11.6 inch PLS touchscreen display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, Intel Atom Z2760 processor, 8MP rear camera with flash, 2MP front camera for video calling, 2GB RAM, 128GB eMMC memory and a 2-cell battery offering 13.5 hours backup.

Further, Ativ Smart PC comes packed with Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and 3G, a micro-HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port, a microSD card reader, a headphone jack and Samsung's proprietary dock port.

On the pricing front, Samsung has priced Ativ Smart PC tablet at Rs 53,990. With a lesser price tag, the Acer offering could be a rival to the Samsung tablet.

Sony unveiled its hybrid ultrabook PC - Vaio Duo 11 based on Windows 8 at the IFA expo in Berlin and released the tablet-cum-Ultrabook in India last week with whopping price tag of Rs 89,900.

Vaio Duo 11 has has a 11.6 inch capacitive touchscreen display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, Intel Core i7-3517U, Intel Core i5-3317U or Intel Core i3-3217U processor, Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro, full HD front camera, 2MP rear camera powered by Exmor for PC, 1.6GHz SDRAM, 4GB or 8GB DDR3 RAM and 128GB or 256GB SSD, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 + HS, NFC and micro USB 3.0 support and is powered by a 4,960 mAh battery with up to 4.5 hours backup.

With a more options for customization including operating system, processor and storage and with NFC connectivity, the Sony tablet has the capability to pose a threat to the Acer offering.

Asus, the Taiwanese tech giant has also launched its Windows 8 hybrid - Taichi with dual displays. It is a combination of notebook and tablet and has double sided display to switch seamlessly between different modes.

Taichi features dual 11.6 inch mulit-touch capacitive touchscreen LED backlit displays - both with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, Intel's Ivy Bridge processor, Windows 8 Pro, 1.6GHz 4GB DRR3 RAM, 128GB/256GB SATA SSD flash memory, 5MP 1080p auto focus camera, HD 720p camera, mini VGA port, 2 USB 3.0 ports and a micro HDMI port, whereas, IdeaPad Yoga has 2 USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port and a 2-in-1 card reader (SD/MMC).

Further, Taichi is packed with connectivity features including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and is loaded with a 35Whr delivering up to 5 hours backup. When it comes to pricing,

Asus has priced the tablet-notebook hybrid at Rs 1,39,999, which could be a too high as compared to Iconia W510, but the device comes with dual displays and improved storage capacity. At the same time, the latter comes with a stronger battery life of 18 hours, which is very interesting.

XPS Duo 12, which is a laptop cum tablet hybrid based on Windows 8 Os features a 12.5 inch full HD touchscreen display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, backlit keyboard, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Intel Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/n, Bluetooth v3.0, 3G, micro USB and HMDI ports and a long battery backup.

The Dell offering comes with a larger display real estate with full HD resolution, better processor, improved storage, but when it comes to pricing, it is significantly higher as it is priced at Rs 1,04,990.

Again, if the Acer tablet comes at the estimated price of Rs 40,000, it could be a tough challenger for the highly priced Dell tablet.
