Google Nexus 7 2nd Gen Announced: 5 Upgrades That Makes It Better Than Its Older Brother
Google finally unveiled their latest and most awaited second generation Nexus 7 tablet yesterday. It is quite surprising that Nexus 7 2nd gen was not a best kept secret from Google because before its announcement, the sleek tablet had already been in leaks and rumors and speculations that were made earlier regarding the specs of the tablet pretty much appeared to be correct.
Moreover, the best part of the new Nexus 7 from Google is the incorporation of the latest version of Android Operating System 4.3. Obviously, this will affect a lot of other tablets present in the market.
Probing more into the details of the next gent Nexus 7, here is a brief rundown on what it actually brings to us this time:
The slimmer, second-generation Nexus 7 by Taiwan-based Asus comes with a 7-inch IPS display offering a high resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels and pixel density of 323 PPI.
Talking about the power of the tablet, the 7 inch latest slate from Google runs on the latest version of Android Jelly Bean 4.3 operating system and is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked to 1.5GHz. The new tablet also features Adreno 320 graphics and is also supported by 2GB RAM for smooth functioning.
These days tablet with cameras are coming up really fast in the market trying to put up a hefty competition and Google fortunately realized the need of the better camera. Thus there is a 5 MP camera fitted at the rear side while 1.3 MP camera lies on the front face of the tablet.
Connectivity features in the new Nexus 7 includes cellular, WiFi, 3G, LTE, Bluetooth, NFC, Wireless charging, GPS, GLONASS, MicroUSB and also HDMI output.
Perhaps there is probably a two variant of the tablet, one with 16GB and other with 32 GB internal storage capacity. The latest creation of the Google and Asus tablet, Nexus 7 2 is powered by a 3,950mAh battery.
Moreover, talking about the price and availability of the tablet, it was reportedly said that Nexus tablets will be available in three models, all with seven-inch high-resolution screens. Two Nexus 7 models will connect to the internet just using Wi-Fi, while one will be synchronized to US high-speed telecom carrier networks.
Nexus 7 prices will start at $229 (approx. Rs. 13,538) and top out at $349 (approx. Rs.20,633) in the US market. Wi-Fi only versions will go on sale in the United States on July 30, with Nexus 7 tablets to be released in France, Australia, Britain, South Korean and a few other countries in "coming weeks." However, there is no information as to when it will come to India as of now but it can be expected to come soon.
However, Gizbot has also cared to come up with a short and precise difference between the older variant of Nexus 7 and the new one. Have a look below in the sliders;
2 Gen Nexus 7: Display
New Nexus 7 comes with a better screen resolution of 1,920 x 1,200pixels and higher pixel density of 323 PPI while the older one came with the lower resolution of 1,280 x 800 and pixel density of 216 PPI. Thus the new gen Nexus definitely beats the older one with better display quality.
2nd Gen Nexus 7: Camera
The older variant come with only the front facing 1.3 MP camera and that was one of the most criticized aspect of the tablet while Google has realized the feedback and now it has given the new Nexus tablet a 5 MP rear camera which will surely bring smiles on the faces of the fans.
2nd Gen Nexus 7: Connectivity
The Asus and Google's partnership on the new Nexus tablet has also brought about a bit of changes on the connectivity front. Now users can find LTE support, Wireless charging option and now the fans can also find an HDMI slimport on the latest Nexus 7 which is a huge advantage.
2nd Gen Nexus 7: Software
First of all, the new Nexus 7 comes packed with the unbeatable Android 4.3 Jelly Bean unlike the older one which came with 4.2 version. Thus it has a lot to offer. Not only that but it comes with a higher and better clocked quad core processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro clocked to 1.5GHz while on the graphics front, it is powered by Adreno 320. On the other hand, the older variant of the Nexus tablet came with 1.2GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. Even the RAM has been pulled up to 2GB in the newer Nexus 7 while the older one remains to be 1GB.
2nd Gen Nexus 7: Form and Battery
Moreover, the latest Nexus 7 tablet comes with a manicured looks as it has become slimmer and weighs lesser as well compared to its older sibling. The new one comes at 8.65mm thin looks weighing 317.5g while the older one was 10.45mm thick and weighed 340g.
The only thing aspect on which the older brother of Nexus 7 beats the new one is on batter power. Thus the older one came with a massive 4,325mAh battery but the newer one is stuffed with a lesser powerful 3,950mAh battery.
