HTC ‘Volantis’ Tablet Could Be Upcoming Nexus 8.9 Tablet

Yes, you heard that right! Software giant Google could showcase the HTC-made Nexus 9 at its annual developer conference on June 25 in San Francisco. Just ahead of Google IO 2014, a sensational report from Android Police claims the arrival of Nexus 8.9. And for a change, the Nexus 8.9 will be produced by HTC, instead of Taiwan's Asus.

As reported by Android Police, HTC is working an 8.9-inch tablet codenamed the Flounder or Volantis. The tablet's display will have a resolution of 2048 x 1440 pixels, a 64-bit Tegra K1 CPU , 2GB of RAM, either 16GB or 32GB of on-board storage, an 8MP rear-facing camera with OIS feature and a 3MP front-facing shooter.

The HTC-made tablet will have zero gap aluminum construction and stereo front-facing speakers. The report does carry some weight, in fact, other rumors in the past have mentioned HTC Volantis tablet.

Android Police's report suggests that the tablet will cost $399 ( about Rs. 24,000) for 16GB and $499 ( about Rs. 30,000) for 32GB, alongside an expensive LTE variant. The Nexus 8.9 tablet is said to be released in Q4. This simply means that it is unlikely to see the new device at Google IO 2014.
