While the 7-inch tablet market may have already peaked, Microsoft, on the other hand, could announce its Surface Mini slate by next-month to revive its hardware ambitions. It seems that the software giant is so desperate to win over the likes of Google and Apple.

While, Microsoft is yet to launch the Surface Mini tablet in market, in the meantime, electronics retailer Vostrostone has posted images of a Smart Cover Case designed for the Microsoft Surface Mini tablet.

Looks like case manufacturer Vostrostone appears to have intentionally revealed the upcoming Microsoft Surface Mini tablet with an Amazon listing. Going by the images on Amazon.com, the case looks quite similar to the iPad Mini smart cover (fake ones).

Microsoft Surface Mini: What to Expect?

If rumors are to be believed, the forthcoming Microsoft Surface Mini tablet will have a screen size between 7 and 8-inches. The Amazon listing implies the mini version of the Surface tablet could hit the market in the middle of next-month.

Earlier this month, a report from Neowin revealed the Surface Mini to have either 7 or an 8-inch display. Moreover, the report also revealed that Microsoft will promote the tablet as a note-taking device. The Surface Mini is expected to be closer to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the Nvidia Tegra 7, and will include Wacom digitizer support.

Meanwhile, ZDNet.com believes that the Surface Mini would be ARM-based. When ZDNet asked Microsoft to comment upon the Surface Mini tablet the company replied that it has "nothing to share". This could simply mean that there will be an announcement sooner than expected.

Declining Tablet Sales- Apple Q2 2014 Earnings

Even though Apple's Q2 2014 earnings should been seen in a positive light, but the poor showing from iPad reflect decline in the popularity of tablet. Apple just sold 16.4 million iPad units in the quarter, a 16% drop-off from roughly 19.5 million units in the same quarter a year earlier.

While Tim Cook, CEO Apple, blamed channel inventory changes, but new data suggests that the iPad lineup has shown no improvements in the past two quarters.

The Apple iPad is still the best available tablet, but it's not the only option available. There are other cheaper options available from the likes of Samsung and Asus.
