Last week, GizBot spoke about a rumor that Microsoft was trying to convince HTC to make dual-boot devices that run both Windows Phone and Android. But according to a new rumor, Microsoft might have also asked Samsung and Huwaei to start offering some of their popular phones and tablets with a dual-boot option with Android and Windows RT.

Samsung Might Make Galaxy Note Tablets With Windows RT And Android

And what do these phone manufacturers get in return? Well, just like it did with HTC, Microsoft is offering its Windows Phone OS for smartphones and Windows RT for tablets for free. Apart from this, it is also throwing in compensation for adaptation costs. While consumers might have loved Windows 8 (the wholesome OS that Microsoft is offering on pcs and Surface Pro tablets), they might not be as interested in a tablet running Windows RT. Why? Windows RT has a tiny selection of apps and it can't run most mainstream Windows 8 apps.

The rumor also adds that Samsung has responded positively, saying that it would make its upcoming Galaxy Note 12.2-inch tablet a dual-boot system running both Android and Windows RT. But the move might prove unpopular among consumers because the Windows RT OS takes up around 16GB of storage space. Now lets say you combine that with Samsung's Touch Wiz heavy Android, and you'll have to add another 10GB. Thereby leaving a 32GB hard drive with about 6GB of space for users.

What is the software giant trying to accomplish with this move? Microsoft's scheme is simple. It is hoping that when consumers pick up these dual boot phones and tablets, they'll get a chance to try out Windows Phone or Windows RT(For tablets). Since the consumer can try out the OS without having to commit, it appears that the software giant is optimistic that people might choose its OSs over Android.

Analysts believe that Microsoft has grown desperate over the last year since it's Windows Phone OS only has about four percent of market share in the global smartphone segment. Un sold Surface tablets using Windows RT accounted for a $900 million loss to the company in 2012.
