Xperia Z Tablet Pre-Order Starts at Rs 44990: Can Sony's Biggest Tablet Bet Dwarf Android Biggies?

Sony has a reputation of being a premium player in the market. In the past, Sony had come with Xperia S tablet, but it went unnoticed citing various issues. The tech vendor even experimented with a clamshell design Sony Tablet P. When the Japanese giant announced their entry into tablet market back in 2011, they claimed to be the second most successful tablet maker by 2012. Nothing happened as per the wishes of Sony.

"We would really like to take the No. 2 position (in the tablet market) by 2012. At this moment, the timing of (those tablet) announcements versus (their) availability today is a different story. iPad is the king of tablets for sure. Who is going to be (the) second player?" said Kunimasa Suzuki, deputy president of Sony.

According to the latest report by IDC, Sony is nowhere to be seen among the top tablet makers in the world. Earlier this year at CES, Sony actually managed to turn eyes with Xperia Tablet Z. It really stands out in the crowd, when it comes to design, and loaded features. Last week, it was informed that this very tablet can be purchased around the world. However, Sony India hasn't listed the device on its official site. Now, India's leading online shopping sites - Flipkart and Infibeam have started taking pre-orders. The Sony Xperia Tablet Z will cost consumers Rs. 44, 990. The official price is still not out yet.

In terms of internal specifications, the tablet packs a 10-inch TFT display with resolution of 1920 X 1200 pixels, 1.5GHz quad-core processor, Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, an 8-mega pixel rear facing camera, 2.2-mega pixel front facing camera, 16GB of internal storage which can be further expanded, NFC, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, HDMI and a 6,000mAh battery inside. Just like Xperia Z, this tablet device also comes with water and dustproof capabilities. At Rs.44, 990, it is of course expensive, and hard to recommend. Competition wise, Sony has to battle hard with Apple's iPad 4.
