How To Get A BSNL Kavach Number And Recharge Without Sharing Your Real Phone Number
Many people in India still recharge their mobile connections at local shops or counters. While the process is simple, it often requires sharing your phone number with the shopkeeper or others nearby. In some cases, that can lead to privacy concerns or unwanted contact later.

To address this, BSNL has introduced a new service called Kavach Number. The feature was announced on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day, and is designed to help women keep their personal mobile numbers private while recharging their connections offline.
Instead of giving your real phone number at the recharge counter, the service generates a temporary number that can be used for the recharge process.
What The BSNL Kavach Number Does
The Kavach Number is a temporary 10-digit number linked to your actual BSNL mobile number. Once activated, the number is sent to the user through an SMS.
This number can then be shared at a recharge shop instead of the real phone number. The recharge still goes through normally, but your personal number remains hidden.
The temporary number isn’t permanent, though. It expires after some time, which means users will need to request a new Kavach number whenever they want to use the service again.
At the moment, the service is available only for female BSNL users.
How To Get A BSNL Kavach Number
Activating the service involves a quick call to BSNL customer support. Here’s how the process works:
- Open the phone dialer on your device
- Call 1800 180 1503 or 1500 from your BSNL number
- Press 9 to connect with a customer care executive
- Ask the executive to activate the BSNL Kavach Number service
- Confirm your details and follow the instructions provided
- You will receive an SMS containing the temporary Kavach number
Once you receive the SMS, you can use that number when visiting a recharge shop.
Why BSNL Introduced This Feature
Although online recharge apps and digital payments have grown quickly, many users still depend on offline stores for mobile recharges. In those situations, sharing a personal phone number is often unavoidable.
With the Kavach number system, BSNL is trying to offer an additional layer of privacy, allowing women to recharge their phones without exposing their actual mobile numbers.
