Signal Reception Power
In terms of signal reception power, the JioFi device is not as good as the 4G smartphones. We say this as smartphones have better power to choose the 4G signal band as they usually connect to Band 5 or Band 40. However, the JioFi device will mostly use the Band 3 for connection.
Quality of Calls
The JioFi device will be better in this segment in most cases. This is because, smartphones with low quality front camera units don't let you make clear video calls. But, the voice calls will be of good quality. On the other hand, the JioFi device will let you make HD video and voice calls via the JioJoin app that has build-in VoLTE.
RF Band Selection
As mentioned above, the JioFi device will mostly connect to the Band 3. In smartphones, you can change the speed of the connection by altering the band selection to Band 40 that has the maximum signal strength to give the highest 4G speed. With JioFi device, there is no way to change the RF Band to the preferred one.
SD Card Sharing
The JioFi device will let you SD card sharing that will let you create your own 32GB cloud space to use the content from anywhere via internet or WiFi. The storage will remain secure with a password and you can access it with login details. There is no such feature in your smartphone.
Battery Backup
This depends on the smartphone that you use to enjoy the benefits of the Reliance Jio Welcome Offer. The JioFi device has a 2,300 mAh battery that can give a backup of 5 hours to the device. If your phone has a better battery backup, it will win in this segment.
WiFi Hotspot Range
In smartphones, you cannot change the 802.11 mode as it is set to B/G/N by default. Mostly, it will be set to B that has a lower WiFI range. However, with the JioFi device, you can adjust the 802.11 mode and the Channel mode. This way, you can increase or decrease the WiFi range easily.
Verdict
The choice of a 4G smartphone or the JioFi device to use the Reliance Jio SIM card depends completely on you. If you want to connect to many devices with a single Reliance Jio SIM card, you must definitely go for the JioFi hotspot device.
