After all the buzz around the Reliance Jio official launch, the service was made official by the company's Chairman, Mukesh Ambani at their Annual Grand Meeting on September 1. Reliance Jio forayed into the already crowded Indian telecom market some months ago with their preview offer.
Along with the official announcement, Ambani also revealed the prepaid plans of the service, which are stunning cheap when compared to other telecom services. The postpaid plans were revealed yesterday.
The major highlight, however, was the free voice calls, even on roaming. Yes, you heard it right. Reliance Jio costs only for data, that means, the voice calls are bundled with the data pack itself. Mystery also shrouded around this free voice calls offering, but COAI cleared that Jio is a 4G-ready network, so the VoLTE calls are HD and uses data for calling.
Having said that, the service is official now and anyone with a genuine proof can get their hands on a Reliance Jio SIM. The service will be rolled out incrementally, which means that it will be available for only Mumbai and Delhi users starting September 5 and will be made available for other cities in coming six weeks.
Do you belong to any either Delhi or Mumbai? If Yes, then here's how to get a Reliance Jio SIM card on and after September 5.
Forget Preview Offer
Reliance Jio is official now and now, every user can get a Reliance Jio SIM card. Before the official launch, Reliance Jio was issued in the company's own Reliance Digital, Digital Xpress, and Digital Mini stores. With the official rollout, users might be able to get the SIM card in the nearest telecom stores as well.
However, the news wasn't confirmed yet. Let's wait for September 5 and see what happens.
At the official announcement, Ambani admitted that the Jio SIM will be issued under the e-KYC activation basis as well, which is the latest and fastest way to activate your SIM card. For the e-KYC activation, you need to carry your original document of Aadhar card and submit it to the store and the SIM card will be activated in 15 minutes within the store itself.
If you don't have the original document of Aadhar card, then you need to carry other documents and the activation process might take up to 24-48 hours.
Head Over to Reliance Store Nearby
The third step is to carry your documents to the nearest Reliance Digital store where you can get a Jio SIM card. You can either visit any nearest telecom store as well, but that isn't confirmed yet.
Show your original document and also carry two passports sized color photos. And, make sure that photographs are recent ones. Submit them and choose your Jio number.
Wait for Signal bars
Reliance will send you the process of activating your Jio SIM card to your registered mail ID. Now, wait for 24 hours to get the SIM activated. You'll receive a message to your alternate number when the SIM is activated.
After receiving the signal bars, you need to verify your details by calling the tele-verification service. You can do that by calling 1977 and keep all the bills, Jio number, and submitted documents beside you as you will be asked those when you call the customer care.
Enjoy Reliance Jio’s Welcome Offer:
After successful verification, your Jio SIM card will be activated and you can enjoy Reliance Jio's Welcome offer till December 31. After that, you need to recharge with any of the prepaid tariff plans.
The Welcome offer includes 4GB of 4G data per day, unlimited SMS, and unlimited voice calls.
