The Huawei Mate X3 Announced in China: Competitor to Galaxy Z Fold4?

Following the foldable-smartphone craze this year, Huawei has announced its latest foldable smartphone, the Mate X3 in China. The Mate X3 succeeds the Mate X2 launched in 2021.

At a weight of 239g, an impressive 7.85-inch inner display and a 6.4-inch outer display, and powerful features, the Mate X3's competition is clear: the current defacto foldable ruler, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4.

Huawei Mate X3 Specifications and Features

Huawei claims to have used a "double-rotation water drop hinge" that allows the phone to be used in multiple angles.

The foldable's inner screen consists of a 7.85-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz. The outer display gets a 6.4-inch LTPO OLED display that has a touch sampling rate of 300Hz.

For the camera, the foldable smartphone has a triple camera setup comprising a 50MP primary camera, a 13MP ultra wide camera and a 12MP 5X telephoto lens. At the front is an 8MP camera with f/2.4 aperture, both on the inner and outer screen.

The foldable comes with the powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC with Adreno next-gen GPU. The Mate X3 has 12GB of RAM and comes in several storage variants: 256/ 512GB / 1 TB of storage space which is expandable up to 256GB using a NM card.
It boots HarmonyOS 3.1.

The Mate X3 is IPX8 certified, which means it is water resistant. The displays are protected by Huawei's Kunlun glass, which makes them extremely durable.

The Mate X3 also comes with support for Beidou two-way satellite messaging. It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

It runs on a 4,800mAh battery with support for 66W fast charge. Huawei offers the foldable in another special variant called the Mate X Collector's Edition which comes with a 5,060mAh battery with support for 66W wired charging and 50W wireless fast charging.

Connectivity options include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ax (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.2 LE, GPS (L1 + L5 dual-band), NavIC, NFC, USB 3.1 Type-C (GEN1).

Huawei Mate X3 Price and Availability

The Mate X3 is available in multiple color options: Feather sand white, Feather sand black, Feather sand Purple, Qingshandai, and Dawn gold.

The Huawei Mate X3 can be purchased for 12,999 yuan (approximately ₹1,56,495) for the 256GB variant, whereas the 512GB variant comes for 13,999 yuan (₹1,68,490). The 1TB storage variant can be bought for 15,999 yuan (approximately ₹1,92,610).

The Mate X3 is available for pre-orders and can be purchased from April 7 in China. While Huawei has indicated there will be an international launch of the Mate X3 on May 9 in Munich, it is not clear which regions the device could be available in.
