Motorola Moto 360 vs Moto 360 2nd gen: 7 major differences
Motorola made an impression on its fans with its beautiful rounded-display smartwatch, the Moto 360, when it got launched back in 2014. The Moto 360 was in fact received good response, mainly due to its design goodness coupled with nice features and specs. The company however recognized the shortcomings of its first gen wearable and then announced an updated version with much improvements and change in design at IFA 2015. Three months later, it has now launched the new generation Moto 360 smartwatch in India for its price starting from Rs 19,999 for the base model.
Up Close and Personal with Moto 360 2nd gen Smartwatch Launched in India Today [First Impressions]
The Moto 360 2nd gen is more powerful and much improved than its predecessor. It has some design tweaks as well. If you are planning to buy theMoto 360, but are confused which model to chose, here we highlight the major differences between the two models, to tell you what is different this time.
Size:
The major and important difference between the two Moto 360 smartwatches is that the new wearable from Motorola's kitty is available in two different sizes. These sizes include 42mm and 46mm wrist watches with watch strap of a 20mm and a 22mm respectively, which have been designed to give a user more options that suit their wrist size and go with their choice of style.
In addition to that, the company paid attention to its female customers' choice and launched a 42mm variant with a thinner 16mm watch strap, exclusively for women to catch their fancy. The Moto 360 came in just 46mm size.
Display:
The different sized watch also come with two different sized displays. The smaller watch variant measuring in at 42mm has a 1.37-inch screen with 360×325 pixels resolution, where as the 46mm variant a slightly bigger display of 1.55-inch with 360×360 pixels resolution.
Design:
The new Moto 360 as classy as the original model, and adorns a similar circular dial design, but with slight yet noticeable changes. On placing the two versions side by side, you will notice a sight change in the design of the dial which has got jagged edges.
Motorola has shifted the crown ring (power button) upwards, from close to 3'o clock to towards 2'o clock, and the placement of lugs has also been shifted. Users can now swaps the straps of watch easily, to give a look of their choice, which was not possible with the Moto 360 original model.
Processor and memory:
The Moto 360 was powered by a single-core chipset whereas the Moto 360 (2015 Edition) is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core chipset backed up by an Adreno 305 GPU, which should mean a better and smoother performance on the new watch version. The RAM size remains the same at 512MB, so does the internal storage space which is 4GB.
Battery:
The 46mm variant of the Moto 360 2nd gen has a 400mAh battery which can give up to a full day of mixed use with Ambient on, while the 42mm runs on a 300mAh battery which can run for up to a full day of mixed use with Ambient on. The previous gen Moto 360 came with a 320mAh battery which could easily last for a day of mixed use.
Software:
The new version of the Moto 360 is powered by an updated version of the Android Wear OS, which is developed for the wearable category. The updated Android version does bring improvements and fixes bugs, which is an advantage for the Moto 360 2nd gen users.
Compatibility:
The Moto 360 (2nd Gen) is compatible with Android smartphones and offers limited compatibility with iOS. It can work with a phone running Android 4.3+ or iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 8.2+.
