Casio announces a cheaper variant of the Pro Trek smartwatch
Casio brings the cheaper variant of the WSD-F20 smartwatch.
Casio launched the WSD-F20 in its Pro Trek series of smartwatches last year. While the device was pretty efficient, it can at a hefty price of $499 which pushed away many potential buyers. Now the company has unveiled an upgraded version of the watch, the WSD-F20A with a new design and a lower price of $399.
With the new price point, the device comes in direct competition with the likes of LG Sport Watch - which is one of the most popular among Android wearables. But, it wouldn't be fair to compare the two since both are built for different used cases.
The company is yet to announce the specifications of the WSD-F20A, but since it's an update rather than being a completely new version, it's safe to say that it might feature similar specs as the previous variant. It is expected to feature 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage and will run Wea OS with a new indigo design element.
It will have up to 50 meters, a dual layer, digital compass, LCD display alongside an activity tracker, microphone, and GPS. It also allows users to download maps on the device so they don't need an internet connection to find their way home. The device also integrates with nine major app companies, including ViewRanger, Hole19, and Fishbrain. Casio said that the WSD-F20A will launch sometime in May this year.
In November last year, the company announced a new series of action camera in the G'z EYE series. Dubbed as GZE-1 EYE this action camera comes with shock-resistant, waterproof, dustproof and low-temperature resistant body.
As per the company this device has been designed for shooting extreme sports such as BMX, skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing in harsh conditions. With its shock-resistant feature, the camera can withstand a drop up to four meters; it is waterproof with up to 50 meters, dustproof which is rated at IP6X standard, and performs at temperatures down to -10°C.The new GZE-1 EYE action camera has been developed from the experience that the company has gained with the G-SHOCK brand of shock-resistant watches.
Let's wait and see what the new Casio watch brings to the table and will it be able to hit the right chords with the consumers.
