Puma joins hands with Fossil to make smartwatches
Puma brand wants to try its luck in the smartwatch market and with that desire, it has inked a deal with Fossil for 10-years.
Puma tried its luck in the smartphone industry, but things didn't work out the way they were expecting. Now the company wants to try its luck in the smartwatch market and with that desire, it has inked a deal with Fossil for 10-years. The deal says Fossil will be manufacturing and distributing the Puma-branded wearable. The first Puma branded watches will be available in late 2019.
"Puma is one of the world's leading sports brands. We are excited to partner with them and bring our world-class design and distribution capabilities to the Puma watch collection," said Kosta Kartsotis, chief executive officer, Fossil Group.
However, there is no information on the looks, design and the feature included on the upcoming Puma edition smartwatch. The partnership seems to be in good hands, as Fossil is home to many brands for smartwatches.
Brands including Diesel, DKNY, Emporio Armani, Kate Spade New York and Michael Kors, and there are the examples where Fossil has helped to bring smartwatch tech to high-end brands. Interestingly Fossil does build non-smart watches for Adidas, but it seems to be some rivalry there.
It will be interesting to see What Fossil is going to do with the more sport focused smartwatch, this will be a whole new experience for Fossil because they will be the first time for the company is trying something in the field of sports.
It's good to see that Puma brand is entering the space considering that their rivals brands like Nike, Adidas and other big sports companies are making attempt to bring tech as fitness band by partnering with brands like Fitbit and Apple.
If Puma is following the similar line like the other brands, then we can expect that the smartwatch will be focused more on running and track other sports activities like swimming, cycling and many others. We can also expect that the smartwatch will feature heart sensor, which will notify all the heart rate of the user.
As of now, we don't know whether Puma watch will run on Android Wear or not. Fossil does make Android-powered watches, but it also does justice with hybrid watches. This partnership is set to run until 2028 let's see what we are going to get out of this collaboration.
