Samsung to launch Gear S2 smartwatch in India on Jan 21

Samsung's Gear S2 smartwatch is coming to India on January 21, 2016. The Gear S2 smartwatch is available in three variants - Basic, 3G and Classic. It is not clear which of these variants will be making their way to India.The company also offers personalization of the watch outside India on some of its variants. It must be seen if personalization of the Gear S2 will be offered when it gets launched in India. The Gear S2 smartwatches are powered by Tizen OS and not Android.

The Gear S2 is a successor to the Gear S from Samsung.The Gear S2 has a 1.2" circular display with Super AMOLED display and a pixel density of 360x360. The screen has a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 making it scratch resistant. The smartwatch has a stainless steel case and has a rotating ring bezel.

The smartwatch comes with features like heart rate sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer, ambient light and GPS on the 3G model. It is IP-68 certified which makes it water-resistant for 30 minutes up to a depth of 1 meter. The smartwatch also comes with a microphone with support for S-Voice. It is backed by a 250mAh battery in the basic model.

The Gear S2 is powered by Samsung Exynos 3250 dual-core clocked at 1.0 Ghz with 512MB RAM and a non-expandable internal memory of 4GB. Connectivity options on the Samsung Gear S2 includes a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 LE and NFC.

While the Gear S2 and S2 Classic have the same hardware, the Gear S2 3G offers 3G connectivity and has a different chipset powering it.
