Xiaomi Mi Band 3 clears Bluetooth certification tipping imminent launch
Xiaomi Mi Band 3’s announcement might happen in the coming months.
Xiaomi Mi Band 2 is a best-selling fitness tracker that was announced back in June 2016. As it is almost two years old, the rumors about its successor have started making the rounds on the internet. Xiaomi has been rolling out special edition models in order to keep it refreshed for quite some time. Now, the company is believed to be ready with the third-generation model of the wearable device.
The Mi Band 3 has received the Bluetooth certification confirming its existence, claims Twitter user Roland Quandt. There appears to be not much clarity on the key specifications of the device. The listing makes it clear that the Mi Band 3 might arrive with the model number XMSH05HM. Also, it is claimed to support Bluetooth 4.2 LE (Low Energy). The report also notes that the production of the alleged Mi Band 3 is handled by Anhui Huami Information Technology Co. Ltd that is a Xiaomi's subsidiary.
While we do not have a clear picture about the design and specifications of the Mi Band 3 and the price point at which the device might get unveiled, we expect it to be one of the advanced fitness trackers out in the market when it is official. Notably, the first-generation Mi Band is a basic fitness tracker. And, the company added an OLED display, calorie counter, heart rate sensor and pedometer to the second-generation model.
Having said that, there is a possibility for the third-generation Mi Band to have more advanced features. The second-generation model came with a few issues such as the not so bright OLED display and the inability of the heart rate sensor to record the heart rate of the users. We can expect fixes to these issues in the next-generation fitness tracker from Xiaomi.
Xiaomi has been pretty successful in the entry-level wearable market segment with the Mi Band series. The market research firm Gartner states that the wearables are failing to match the rapid adoption rate of smartphones as their battery life is not long lasting and there is a poor integration with the mobile OS. Due to the decline in the wearable sales, Xiaomi surpassed Fitbit and became the market leader globally. Also, there is an adoption for the Mi Band series wearables among the users of Redmi and Mi smartphones.
