Xiaomi Mi Band 3 with OLED display to be launched this year
Xiaomi could be all set to unveil the third-generation fitness band at an affordable price point later this year.
In 2017, Xiaomi surpassed both Fitbit and Apple and became the wearable market leader. The company out-shadowed the premium wearable brands with its budget-friendly fitness tracker. The company's Mi Band and Mi Band 2 are popular fitness trackers in the budget market segment. There are other such affordable fitness trackers from companies like Lenovo and Huawei, the Xiaomi is dominating the segment.
Given that the second-generation fitness band from Xiaomi, the Mi Band 2 was unveiled in mid-2016 in China, it is time for us to witness the launch of its successor sometime this year. In fact, the Mi Band 2 successor was supposed to arrive in 2017 but the launch did not happen. Now, the company is gearing up for the Mi Band 3's launch this year.
According to a Chinese publication via PhoneRadar, the Mi Band 3 bearing the model number XMSH05HM has received the Bluetooth certification. The device will arrive with the Bluetooth 4.2 LE connectivity to pair with smartphones. Similar to the previous generation models of Mi Band, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is also believed to be compatible with both Android and iOS smartphones.
The report further adds that the Mi Band 3 is expected to arrive with an OLED display to show the time, heart rate, notifications, steps taken and calories burnt. The Mi Band 3 is expected to cost almost the same as its predecessor and incorporate a heart rate sensor too.
Being an affordable fitness tracker, we cannot expect the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 to arrive with premium features such as inbuilt GPS or continuous heart rate tracking. Also, the Mi Band 3 is said to feature two to three weeks of battery life with a capacious battery operating under its hood.
While nothing much is known about the Mi Band 3, we can expect the next-generation Xiaomi fitness band to be unveiled in the coming months and we are yet to see how different it will be from the Mi Band 2. Until then, we need to wait for an official confirmation regarding the Mi Band 3.
