Garmin Venue Smartwatch: The Good, The Bad, And The X Factor
Garmin, the US-based brand has extended its smartwatch lineup in India with the launch of Venue. Notably, the device is launched just a day after Huawei introduced its premium Watch GT 2 in the country. Loaded with features, the latest Garmin entrant comes at a starting price of 37,490. The Garmin Venue smartwatch will be available exclusively on Amazon till December 15.
Post that, it will be up for grabs on the other e-commerce platforms as well such as Tata CLiQ, Myntra, Flipkart, and PaytmMall. It can also be purchased from offline stores along with official Garmin retail stores.
We were present at the launch event and got to the unit briefly. In this article, we are listing down the good, the bad and the X factor of the Garmin Venue smartwatch.
Garmin Venue Smartwatch: The Good
Big AMOLED Display With Soft Touch Experience
Venue is the first smartwatch from Garmin that ships with a colored AMOLED display panel. The dial is round and measures 1.2-inches.
The advantage of this dial is that the content displayed is big and you won't have to bring the wrist close to the eyes to view content.
The information displayed is not cluttered and is neatly organized for easy accessibility to the different features. The touch is smooth and there is no lag when you swipe from one screen to another or while using any of the features.
Also, the brightness seems optimum and it isn't as dull as the previous-gen Garmin watches. We weren't able to test its sunlight legibility, but expect it to perform well under direct sunlight as well.
Looks And Feels Premium
The build quality of the watch is good and gives a premium feel in hand. The straps are soft and appear to be suitable for longer durations. The company has opted for a minimalistic design approach. Even though it doesn't appear fancy, it manages to look premium in all the colors.
It would be hard to comment on whether it is a sweatproof design. However, we will give our feedback on the wearing comfort once we are done with the review.
Garmin Venue Smartwatch: The Bad
Average Battery Life
One of the biggest drawbacks which we feel here is the low battery backup. Garmin claims a backup of up to 5 days. However, most of the other smartwatches available in the market generally offer at least a week of backup.
Moreover, the recently launched Huawei Watch GT 2 is said to deliver up to 2 weeks of backup with a single charge. So, Garmin Venue offering a lower battery backup at a higher price than the Huawei Watch GT 2 is kind of a bummer. We expected at least more than a week of backup if we are shelling out some extra bucks.
The battery capacity is unspecified and so is the charging time. But, we will surely test it to its full potential in the coming days.
Bit On The Expensive Side
The Garmin Venue comes in a single variant priced at Rs. 37,490. This is more than what you pay for a good quality mid-range smartphone. Considering the majority of the Indian users are budget-conscious, this hefty price tag might hamper its sale.
Garmin Venue Smartwatch: The X Factor
Loaded With Smart Features
The Garmin Venue smartwatch comes pre-installed with numerous features that are quite useful in day-to-day life. Following are some of the smart feature which you get on the smartwatch:
Menstrual Cycle Tracking: This is a unique feature introduced by Garmin for its female users to keep a track of their menstrual cycle.
Women can connect the Garmin app with their Venue smartwatch and not only track their cycle, but also get information on emotional symptoms and learn about training and nutrition during each phase of the cycle.
Also, they will be given reminders regarding their next cycle details and also will be shown the symptoms logged on a particular day.
Safety And Tracking: This feature will detect incidents (during select activities) and assists the user by sending the real-time location to the emergency contacts.
This comes in handy when somebody meets with an unwanted accident and gets help instantly for the user.
Notifications: As the name suggests, this feature will show notifications for all the incoming calls, text messages, calendar reminders, and also social media updates. Notably, if you are an Android user, you will be able to reply to a text message using your smartphone itself.
Garmin Venue Smartwatch: A Hit Or a Miss?
The Garmin Venue smartphone is a premium offering that not only looks good but is also comfortable to wear and feels premium overall. The availability of multiple 24 x 7 health monitoring features makes it suitable for daily usage.
One can not only track time but also his/her health, monitor sleep and heart rate. Also, the Menstrual Cycle Tracking is quite a thoughtful feature which the company has introduced for women.
It's only the hefty Rs. 37,490 price tag which somehow breaks the deal. But, if you are okay to shell out this amount then the Garmin Watch Venue is one of the most feature-rich smartphones which you can buy in India today.
Also, the Garmin vivoactive 4 is priced less than the Venue at Rs. 32,590. It has all the same features as the Venue, but only misses on the AMOLED display panel.
