YouTube Launched AI-Powered Dubbing Service ‘Aloud’

YouTube has launched a new AI-powered feature focused on removing language barriers and simplifying video dubbing in multiple languages.

YouTube stated at the recent VidCon event that it will be utilising the skills of the Aloud team, an AI-powered dubbing service established within Google's Area 120 incubator.

The Aloud tool works by transcribing the user's video and producing a transcript that can be assessed and altered.

YouTube has already started testing the tool with a select set of producers, despite the technology only supporting a small number of languages at the moment.

Since more and more content producers desire to incorporate multilingual dubs in their videos, Aloud's participation on YouTube is expected to be very beneficial.

YouTube intends to expand the tool's capabilities by making translated audio tracks seem more genuine, matching the creator's voice with better expression and lip sync.

These enhancements are scheduled to be implemented in 2024.
