Google reported to popularise Messenger App by discontinuing support for SMS on Hangout

Google's messaging app Hangouts seems all set for a change pretty soon. A new rumor suggests that the Search Engine giant will apparently kill SMS and MMS support in the app from the next update.

Google Hangouts may soon drop support SMS/MMS

In case you are unaware the Hangouts app which was once a native messenger apps on Android (for both online chats and SMS) was replaced by a Messenger app in later half of last year. Despite that Google hadn't stripped Hangouts of it SMS and MMS facilities.

Back in 2013 the Hangout apps was integrated with SMS and MMS feature thereby enabling users to easily switch between text messages and Hangouts chats while staying inside the same app. In fact the SMS and the Hangout Chats were combined together and display in a stringed format for the ease of access.

Google Hangouts may soon drop support SMS/MMS

According to the new report despite dropping the SMS and MMS feature of the Hangout app Google will still continue support for Google Voice and Fi in the app. It is however quite evident why Google is stripping these features from the Hangout Apps.

Google is in fact trying to not only make people update the Hangouts app but also download the Messenger app alongside it. Clever indeed!
