The Chromecast 2 and Chromecast Audio have a completely revamped design, quite different from the original version. One of the biggest drawbacks of the first Chromecast is the lag that accompanied whenever you connected it for mild gaming apps. With improved internals, you can expect that lag to wear off now. Also, another new feature in the arena of gaming is that you can now use your smartphone as a dedicated controller. Quite similar to a gaming console experience, Chromecase helps convert your TV screen into a full size gaming display, and your phone into the controller.

The previous Chromecast app for Android and iOS kinda sucked, to be honest. It didn't offer any suggestions and connecting for the first time was quite a pain. With the device launch, Google has also refreshed some of the features on their app, and made it a bit smarter. Now, if you have content that can be made use of by Chromecast, the app will prompt you to download the concerned app from the Play Store. Google at the launch party said, "For Cast-enabled apps that aren't already on your phone, we'll suggest one for you".

Buffering and loading have been one of the major issues in the first-gen Chromecast. The time taken to load a YouTube video or a song on Rdio was quite a lot and users ended up getting frustrated. With their new dongle, Google has introduced a new feature - Fast Play. If you are binge watching a TV series, the app will automatically start buffering the next episode, once you near the end of the previous one. This helps save time taken to skip to the next one.
