Fairphone has Launched the Fairbuds XL, pair of headphones that are fairly easy to repair and customize. Nearly every component of these over-the-ear headsets can be replaced, even if they are subject to significant wear and tear.

Smartphones, accessories, computers, and other electronics increasingly belong to the polluting category of "use-and-throw" products. Amidst such products, the Fairphone company has introduced the Fairbuds XL. Fairphone Fairbuds XL Headphones Specifications, Features

The Fairphone Fairbuds XL are essentially large over-the-ear headphones with cushioning for each ear which can be folded for easy storage. They measure 190 x 180 x 70mm and weigh 330 grams.

The Fairbuds XL feature 40mm dynamic drivers with 20 - 20 KHz frequency response and 32-ohm impedance. The headphones have 6 microphones, 2 on the left and 4 on the right, and Support Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).

The Fairbuds XL support Bluetooth 5.1. But there they can also be used as wired headphones with a USB-C cable or USB-C to 3.5mm audio adapter. They are IP54 rated for water and dust resistance.

The Fairphone headphones have an 800 mAh battery. Fairphone claims the battery can provide up to 26 hours of battery life for music or calls with ANC on and 30 hours with it off.

The headphones have up to 320 hours of standby time. The battery does not support fast charging and hence, it takes about 3 hours to fully recharge.

The design of the Fairbuds XL ensures its components can be upgraded or replaced. Fairphone may offer better speakers, mics, or other hardware that could be swapped into the existing case.

Fairphone has also incorporated recycled and fair-trade materials, including recycled aluminum, tin solder paste, plastics, and fair-trade gold. Simply put, Fairphone's commitment to environmental consciousness has ensured the design of the Fairbuds XL is sustainable and customizable. In fact, Fairphone claims that the Fairbuds XL can be fixed using only a Philips head screwdriver.

The Fairphone Fairbuds XL headphones are available in two color options. The headphones cost €249 (approx. ₹22,300).

Fairphone has launched the Fairbuds XL in Europe and plans to introduce replacement parts shortly. The company hasn't indicated the availability of the headphones in other markets yet.
